How it works is you look around asteroid belts using a new utility module called a Pulse Wave Scanner, and the previously existing prospector limpets, to find asteroids with a juicy gem core. Once you find one, you can crack it open using a seismic charge launcher to get at the valuable resources inside. The hard part about this is the "finding" part, though.

How can I identify asteroids that may have a deep core that I can crack open? Obviously this can be done slowly by firing a prospector at every glowing rock, but is there any way to identify these rocks before firing a prospector? Whether an asteroid really qualifies for cracking open can only be determined safely with the prospector limpets.

However, I found that asteroids glowing in a bright yellow after scanning with the Pulse Wave scanner tend to yield the rarest minerals and those usually need to be retrieved from the inside of the asteroid by cracking it open with seismic charges. This made me a very rich miner. I think void opals specifically can only be found in icy rings. I also often find the deep core asteroids are near the edge of the belt, but YMMV on that.

If you use look-around while scanning then be aware that an asteroid to your left or right might not be as bright in color until you swing around to point at it.

Meaning; if it is the right shape but not as bright as you like, it may still be worth changing beef smells like eggs and investigating it. The best tip for spotting fissures on the asteroid is to turn on your ship's night vision. I find that fissures stand out a lot better with night vision turned on. The only time that night vision doesn't work so well is when the belt is lit up by a nearby star, but this rarely happens.

Since you're referring to the "credit meta" in conjunction with deep core mining, I'm going to assume you're really interested in void opals for that sweet, sweet 1. I'm a pretty new player and have just started getting into deep core mining, and so far I've only done void opal mining. I've based my strategy around a video guide by Spite's Corner on YouTube attached screenshots are from his video.

The asteroid to the left looks really interesting. When you approach the asteroids closely and use the pulse wave scanner again, the scanner will highlight the asteroid in two steps. What you want to see is the first step with a lot of black in the core of the rock, before the second step highlighting replaces it with yellows and oranges.

Once you find an asteroid like that, it's time for a prospector limpet so you can confirm that there's void opals just waiting to be dislodged with explosives.

Honestly, you can get the python within only a few hours of getting the type 9 if you find yourself a good trade loop.

Heck, after you do THAT, you can even save enough to get a few upgrades for both ships too. It depends on what you are doing. I'm impressed that you are able to afford these ships after only a week of playing, great job!

Always keep enough spare cash for a rebuy. I assume you have been mining to get that many credits, so I'll give you recommendations based on that. The Python is my favourite ship for Void Opal Mining, as it is fast and has decent cargo.

Elite: Dangerous Timeline

Also, it can land on medium sized landing pads at Outposts, which often have better sell prices for Opals, and large ships such as the Type 9 and Anaconda cannot land on. The Type 9, on the other hand, is a lot lot slower than the Python, which makes it unusable for Void Opal Mining efficiently. Instead, the Type 9 is one of the best ships in the game for Painite mining at an overlapping painite hotspot, due to its huge cargo. Dual painite mining will take longer than void opal mining in a Python, but will have much greater rewards.

Also, the Python is a capable combat ship, but the Type 9 can take a fighter bay. If you're looking for a good combat ship though, I would go with the Krait MKII, it has one less size 6 optional slot than the Python, but can take a fighter bay, has better manoeuvrability and speed, and has better hardpoint placement. You can also use the Krait for opal mining, but the Python does beat it in that field. I hope you can make good use of this info.

Fly safe CMDR! Every commander should own a Python, a good all round ship and it only needs a Medium Landing Pad. Save for Anaconda next. Elite Dangerous Wiki. Sign In Don't have an account? Their lack of reflectivity means that they seem almost to absorb light, hence their name. Void Opals are a rare and highly profitable Mineral Commodity that can be mined from crackable motherlode asteroids in Icy Planetary Ring Systems. Although Void Opals can be found in any icy rings, which occur fairly commonly throughout the galaxy, the locations with the highest concentrations of asteroids with Void Opal cores are Void Opal Hotspots within high-mass icy rings orbiting Gas Giants.

Ideally, these should be in uninhabited, low-traffic systems that are not being exploited by groups of other miners, as extensive mining activity can deplete Hotspots and make crackable asteroids more difficult to find. Under certain conditions, specific markets will temporarily buy Void Opals for over 1. This usually occurs at stations controlled by a minor faction that is simultaneously experiencing the Investment, Civil Liberty, and Pirate Attack States.

Really es me off that frontier are truely messing up with no source abilities!!! I don't understand what you mean by 'no source abilities' As for VOs If you've scanned four locations I'm assuming you've DSSed the rings?

Also, I've seen good locations posted on the forums. Did you try searching for those posts? Stasis Wolf. Pretty much everything Ethaidan said is spot on. Its frustrating that the first 4 spots you picked didn't check out but I want to encourage you to keep looking. There are many rings that don't have VO hotspots at all but the next one you scan could have a half dozen or more. Definitely stick to systems with "pristine" reserves though. If the search gets to be a bit too frustrating then maybe head over to Elite Miners on reddit.

Lots of good info there. Good luck Cmdr. Spaceman Si. Northpin said:.
