The features avaialble to a user depends on how they joined the BigBlueButton session and whether they are the current presenter. In a BigBlueButton session, users join either as a viewer or moderator. They can also draw on the whiteboard if given permission by the presenter and join a breakout room.
A session can have multiple moderators. The presenter controls the presentation area. Only one person at a time can be presenter. Given the the above — viewers, moderators, and presenter — we can break down the capabilities of the product according to each role. You can record a conference, use the whiteboard function, add files, share your screen, conduct polls during conference sessions, and even use breakout rooms. However, we do not recommend sharing video via Conferences as screen sharing does not support audio. We recommend using Firefox or Chrome with Conferences and do not recommend using Safari as it does not support screen sharing at this time.

Keep in mind: Students must be invited to a conference in order to access it - conferences will not appear for a student unless they are invited to that particular conference. There is a no viewer limit per conference, but it is recommended not to exceed viewers. Recordings of Conferences are automatically deleted after 14 days.
Uploading internal media content is not available, only sharing YouTube videos is available at this time. The screen sharing option does not transmit audio and has a reduced frame rate from the host, so we do not recommend sharing video via Canvas Conferences. External links in the chat window is the only method available to share media content that is not on YouTube. For hardware, we recommend a dual-core CPU with at least 2G of memory. We recommend any operating system capable of running the latest versions of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. For the browser, we recommend running either Firefox or Chrome. Both browsers provide excellent support for web real-time communications WebRTC.
Canvas Conferences (BigBlueButton) Basics
Safari and IE will work as well, but Firefox and Chrome will deliver better audio in lower bandwidth conditions. In short, if the user is having any problems such as audio is garbled or they are periodically getting disconnectedwe recommend trying either Firefox or Chrome. When using a screen reader, we recommend using Internet Explorer or the bit version of Firefox. The bit versions of Firefox and Chrome make it harder for screen readers to interact with the BigBlueButton client.
A stenographer can join the session and provide a live caption stream to all users you can have multiple stenographers simultaneously providing captioning in multiple languages. Later on, when BigBlueButton processes the recording, it will convert the closed captions to subtitles in the playback.
You should be able to share your screen using Chrome, Firefox, and the newest version of Edge based on Chromium.
BigBlueButton uses LibreOffice 4. If you upload a PDF document, all your fonts will come through with the document. In other words, for best results, if possible always create a PDF and upload it for conversion. You will see the activity with the name you have given it and any description you may have added If you also enabled display description on course page. This section explores some of the most common issues that users experience when using BigBlueButton. If you happen to click anywhere else on the screen before giving the browser permission, you can select the microphone icon found next to the web address in the navigation bar:. You need to see green bars move as you talk. Scroll up through the chat window and look for text in blue. The audio controls are at the bottom of the screen. If you are on a wireless network connection, you may get momentarily disconnected.
BigBlueButton will attempt to auto-reconnect. If you continue to get reconnected, try connecting via a wired ethernet cable directly to the network a wired connection is more stable than wireless. Try connecting from a different network. You can join multiple meetings; however, be sure you are entering the secondary meeting in a separate browser than that of the original meeting - this will ensure your browser permissions are not overridden by the original meeting.
If this doesn't work, you may be connected through a secure network that is restricting the WebRTC audio connection. The Conferences polling feature allows different poll options that can then be published into the presentation screen after students vote. Students can only see the slide the presenter has up and cannot go to other slides on their own. Every window can be maximized.
Select this icon again to stop recording. Recordings will capture presentation, chat, and webcam windows. After this time, they are automatically deleted. Follow the on-screen instructions to launch. Please note: The program will time out shortly after an unfinished initiation, so be prepared to immediately start screen sharing or you will have to restart the program.
In the screen sharing launch menu there are options to either use full screen or only a particular window on the screen for sharing. The Presenter's Preview window will stay up and show on the viewers' screen until it is minimized. Keep in mind: Students must be a presenter in order to upload an item, however, all viewers can download the current presentation. This is useful if presentation materials are needed for course progression or for an instructor to save and grade later.
